hi all,
In two threads recently, one of them admitedly of my own creation, the capabilities of the mac and os10 were necessarily not painted in a good light. Mac is simply just not at windows levels on the web or in office applications, which really puts it out of the running for serious uni students or workers. My point here is simple, who is pestering accessibility@apple.com and asking for this functionality? I've heard these opinions about OSx from a good few mac users who have to use windows for certain things. Well? Why are you all not using the accessibility e-mail feedback apple has given you? Every time you go into windows because flash doesn't work propperly, because you can't sellect text propperly on a web page even! Or because office support isn't there, why aren't you asking for it to be better? The only way to get such things addressed is for enough people to ask for them. I won't even go into here how this shortage of office support reflects the demographic makeup of those blind individuals who have chosen to buy a mac...you know what I mean. Anyway, I think an alternative to windows can be a good thing, but if I want a system to do my job, sorry, apple, you're out of the running, because accessibility isn't there. So let's fix that by the power of shear numbers.

Matthew! excellent post and your right. Remember though, keep those e-mails friendly and courteous. One correction here: Internet is quite good it's the office support that needs work. M-S-Office needs to be addressed by Microsoft. No one likes hearing this but it is not apples problem. They have put fourth very clear guide lines regarding accessibility and when followed things work fairly well. M-S chooses to ignore this and put out an inacccessible product. The iWorks suite is fairly accessible but cumbersome to work with. Also, there are form ellemdnts that voiceover does not recognize in documents such as tables and heading. What they need to do is bring the same robust abillities that are available on the Internet to the office suite and all will go well. I have had this conversation with apple many times and they do recognize this. Here's hoping it gets bumpted up in thepriority list.
Good point. I am all for professional but clear feedback as to why or why not you like the Mac. Within a corporation projects are prioritized based on customer feedback (I did intern at Microsoft accessibility, and I have worked for another company in software development as well, so this is first hand knowledge).
I will actually write them an email tomorrow, asking for those features, please, all of you out there, do the same.
Cheers
Good posts!
Thank you!
i don't really believe that
